چکیده

The present study deals with the quasi-static and high strain rate characterization of Kevlar-129 based thermoplastic composites. Two different matrices, namely, Polypropylene (PP) Polyetherimide (PEI) were used to manufacture composite laminates. Quasi-static compression tests performed at rates 0.041 s ?1 0.045 . High using a split Hopkinson pressure bar apparatus within ranging from 2548 4379 Stress-strain relations reveals rate-sensitive behaviour Kevlar/PP (K-PP) showed higher peak stress under loading as compared test. Comparable stresses revealed for Kevlar/PEI (K-PEI) composite. Also, properties such stress, toughness K-PP 25%, 27% 6% than that K-PEI failure mechanisms both composites characterized through macroscopic scanning electron microscopy. failed majorly due matrix crush fibre while shear cracking. Strain Rate Effect on Tensile Behavior for a High Specific Strength Steel: From Quasi-Static to Intermediate Strain Rates

The strain rate effect on the tensile behaviors of a high specific strength steel (HSSS) with dual-phase microstructure has been investigated. The yield strength, the ultimate strength and the tensile toughness were all observed to increase with increasing strain rates at the range of 0.0006 to 56/s, rendering this HSSS as an excellent candidate for an energy absorber in the automobile industry...

Numerical and Experimental Study of Ballistic Response of Kevlar Fabric and Kevlar/Epoxy Composite

Kevlar is a type of aramid fibers which is characterized by high strength to low weight ratio. This material is widely used in bulletproof vests and helmets, in which it creates a barrier to projectiles to protect specific objectives, laminated tubes and pressure vessels, etc. In this study the ballistic behavior of Kevlar /epoxy composite and Kevlar fabric is investigated. The results showed t...

Mechanical Properties of Boron and Kevlar-49 Reinforced Thermosetting Composites

Glass reinforced thermosetting composite materials are now widely usUUed in building and construction applications. However, the adoption of Boron and Kevlar based composite materials in this industry has been very slow, and the main reasons are lack of previous experiences to assess the durability of such composite products and understanding of their properties by designers. In order to fill t...

High strain-rate response of commercially pure vanadium

To understand the plastic ̄ow behavior of commercially pure vanadium under high strain rates, uniaxial compression tests of cylindrical samples are performed using UCSD's enhanced Hopkinson technique. True strains exceeding 50% are achieved in these tests, over a range of temperature from 77 to 800 K at the strain rates of 2500 and 8000 sÿ1. The microstructure of the deformed and undeformed sam...
